Rescues dogs and cats; pays all the expenses while they are in foster care until an adoptive home can be found. Has a pet food bank where dog or cat food can be supplied to benefit veterans, disabled, and low-income owners. Also has a spay and neuter program to benefit veterans, disabled, and low-income owners.
The Humane Society of the Black Hills works to support the community when faced with difficult situations, to meet that need the following hardship programs are available: ​Affordable Euthanasia Services: If your pet needs to be put down, affordable euthanasia services are provided, fees range from $20.00 - $50.00 ​Animal Surrender Services: An open admission shelter which will take any animal regardless of temperament, age, or health. Animals are assessed for adoption. There is a surrender fee of $10.00 - $25.00. ​Food Assistance Program: Provides pet food for those who are struggling with the cost of food. ​Hardship Boarding: Able to assist with boarding dogs for up to two weeks for community members who are in transition.

An adoption center for abandoned and surrendered pets. Services offered include: abuse and cruelty calls regarding local pets, presentations on pet education and care, tours, house the lost pets brought in by Animal Control and by private individuals, microchipping for $20.00 per pet (no appointment necessary), online lost pet reporting, and Kids Club - education play dates for kids ages 5-11(membership required). Also, offers a Community Pet Food Bank with some pet food available for those who need it; depending on supplies at the time. Limit on assistance of one time per month. A valid driver's license is required.
The Center offers many activities including: line dancing, exercise classes and fitness room, billiards, Wii bowling, card games, table tennis, SHIINE Medicare Part D assistance, pet food assistance, weekly blood pressure checks, nutrition program providing commodity, meals on wheels, and meals at The Center. ​Bingo is offered from 7:00pm - 9:00pm, Tuesday and Friday evenings.
