Animal Behavior Information: Wondering how to potty train your animal, or how to stop a behavior? Humane Society of the Black Hills (HSBH) has information available to help you understand your animals' behavior and how to change that behavior with positive training. Animal License: Per the city ordinance, all animals need to be licensed. Licenses can be purchased at HSBH or a participating veterinarian. Please bring a rabies immunization certificate and documentation regarding if the animal is altered or not altered. Licenses need to be renewed on a yearly basis. Please call for more information on animal license fees. Microchipping: Permanent identification for your pet in case they are lost. Microchipping only takes a couple minutes and helps to increase the chance that your lost animal will be returned home. Please call for information on microchipping fees.

The City of Canistota offers water, wastewater, and garbage service to all residents within the city limits of Canistota. City Hall is the contact for building permits and zoning information. Pet tags are available at the finance office. All pets must be licensed. The fee to license a pet is $10.00 and proof of rabies vaccination must be provided. Pet licenses expire every January.
