The Society of St Vincent de Paul serves the community of Sioux Falls with various programs including outreach services providing financial and material support to those in need for necessities such as rent, utilities, food, shelter, clothing and more. St. Vincent de Paul Society attempts to provide assistance to those in need (within Sioux Falls city limits) with: Rent and utilities Food (voucher only) Cleaning supplies/hygiene items (voucher only) Prescriptions (voucher only) - Clothing, household items, furniture (no mattresses) if unable to purchase, call St. Vincent helpline to request voucher to Thrift Store via home visit Items available at the Thrift Store are based on the donations received Please note: The Society does not provide assistance with rent deposits or fuel for vehicles.

Eviction notice is not required, however, there will be a form the landlord needs to complete the verify rent is past due. - Emergency Utility Assistance Must be behind AND have disconnection notice. Financial Assistance: - Utility assistance (gas, electric or water) that is at least 30 days past due and has a shut off notice (cannot do current bills). Call for qualifications and appointment time. Non-Financial Assistance Programs: - There are two options for those needing food assistance: - The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) provided by USDA through the State of South Dakota. Requires individuals to fall within income eligible guidelines as well as complete a TEFAP Self Declaration form. Can receive TEFAP food only consisting of protein along with nutritional staple(s). - Salvation Army's Food Program: Receive TEFAP and other food consisting of protein, canned goods, and nutritional staples. Picture ID, proof of residence, and completed forms required. - Clothing Vouchers: For those needing assistance for clothing. Assistance may only be given 1 time for every 3 months with photo ID. Verification for any additional individuals needing clothing is required (medical cards, birth certificates, etc.) - Household Vouchers: For those needing assistance with items used to cook and eat a meal or other household goods (bed linens, towels, etc). Available to households 1 time every 3 years with a photo ID and current lease or rental agreement. - Assistance is limited according to what is available at the time. Pathway of Hope: - Program for eligible families. Long term case management program to help families move beyond crisis into stability and becoming self-sufficient. Families will be required to meet with a caseworker to design a plan to meet goals, needs and objectives (ex. goal setting, financial counseling, assistance getting healthcare, educational opportunities, etc).

Purpose is to help residents of Sturgis / Newell who call in to request assistance, or need referrals to deal with life's challenges. The phones are not manned 24/7. For immediate assistance, dial 911 (emergencies) or 211 (for information and referral). Frequently takes calls about rent, utilities, and food.

Provides emergency assistance for those in either Minnehaha/Lincoln County with rent and deposits, Utility bills: Must have a disconnect notice for water, lights, or heating; Food and non-food items, Burial: Clients should begin by choosing a funeral home and meet with them prior to applying for assistance through Minnehaha County. Also provides transportation assistance, dental care, medical care (hospitalization) and Medications. Minnehaha County residents can also receive assistance with Shelter, Gasoline or bus ticket for transients/nonresidents stranded here and needing to get home. Out of town travel assistance is not offered to MC residents. Identification and or birth certificate (if needed for the purposes of obtaining employment/housing). The majority of assistance provided is in the form of a no-interest loan for which a lien is created. The client does not receive any bill from County but is expected to repay the debt, starting in a time frame created by the caseworker. Applicants can choose to walk-in to the office or receive a phone call to complete an interview. Those applying for transportation, medications or ID/BC assistance should come into the office to apply.
