Emergency Management | Minnehaha County

The purpose of the Office of Emergency Management is to provide workable plans to keep the continuity of federal, state, and local governments during time of disaster or extreme emergency. Accordingly, the Emergency Management Office conducts hazard analysis and develops and updates plans for emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and hazard mitigation. Specifically, the office establishes, implements, maintains, tests, and evaluates operational systems for responding to emergencies. This means that it is the responsibility of the Office of Emergency Management to coordinate response and recovery activities of departments and organizations involved in providing emergency services, and it is also in charge of a large number of volunteers who are used in providing these services. The office is the principal source of information on emergency management, including the identification of training needs and developing and providing training programs. Finally, the Emergency Management Office assists all county agencies in obtaining surplus governmental properties. County Emergency Managers can make contact with volunteer fire departments located within the County/townships and ambulance services.
